St. Edward High School's Classical & Modern Languages Philosophy
The Department of Classical and Modern Languages of St. Edward High School recognizes the importance of foreign language study in preparing young men to meet the unique challenges confronting the world in this century, whether they be cultural, linguistic, social, economic, religious or political in nature. Worth Noting In 2007, the department was honored by the Ohio Foreign Language Association as the Department of the Year in the State of Ohio.
The Classics department has been honored by the Ohio Classical Conference as the best Classics department in the state.
Last year, St. Edward Latin had seven students who posted “Perfect Scores” on the National Latin Examination sponsored by the American Classical League and taken by over 150,000 Latin students. Seventy-Five percent of our current Latin students have earned recognition on this examination.
In the past three years, 12 students have received special book recognition for their gold medals on the National Latin Exam.
We have two Fulbright-Hays scholars and three Ohio Foreign Language Association Award Recipient in our department.
The Advanced Placement Program in Spanish and Latin at St. Edward have a record number of students enrolled in these courses.
The department has offered many learning experiences outside of the classroom, including international travel opportunities to Mexico and Italy.
