RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

St. Edward High School's Religious Education Philosophy

The courses of study in Religious Education at St. Edward High School foster each young man’s maturing in faith.  Students are challenged to deep reflection and insight into the reality of Jesus in their lives.  They become familiar with the Scriptures as God’s Word to us, and our Catholic heritage as a source of challenge and direction in living the Gospels.  Students study and reflect on life issues as seen through the eyes of faith.  They analyze contemporary issues using Catholic principles of morality and justice.  Students are offered opportunities to act with courage in expressing their commitments in peer and service ministries.  Religious education teachers offer personnel and support for prayer services, service projects, and retreat experiences that allow students to live the Gospels today.

Worth Noting:

Ninth grade classes experience a day long Retreat Journey with Jesus.

Sophomore Retreats include a prayer service and community service at a local community help agency.

Eleventh and twelfth graders are offered the Kairos overnight peer-led retreats, and camping-based, overnight faith sharing wilderness retreats.

Chair Rosemary Torrence is the author of Mending Our Nets (Brown Roa, 1980) and co-author of the 2000 Diocese of Cleveland Religion Curriculum.
