"Seekers" Spirituality Series

Friday, March 02, 2007
Mr. Mike Reiling and Mr. Bill Fichter of the Religion Department have created a series of four structured conversations for students about the great questions of human life and ultimate meaning. Entitled, the “Seeker’s Series," the primary targeted student group comprises individuals who struggle with overt religious expression, but are intrigued by the questions of meaning in their lives.  Our model is inspired by “The Socrates Café," a form of discourse, sprouting up across the country, that utilizes the methods of inquiry popularized by the famous philosopher Socrates.

The series will take place on four Mondays after school, beginning at 2:30 ending at 7pm.  We will be using a resource guide (Philosophy for Teens) which will provide brief reading material to be used during each session (no advanced reading required).  We will provide a light dinner and beverages with each session.

We invite alumni to attend a session that commands their interest.  We will provide the food, facilitation and materials.  You would need only to be an active participant.  We would also ask that if you attend a session, you stay for the entire time.  This could be a time to interact with students as a fellow seeker, without having to be concerned about the issues of preparation, facilitation and discipline. Please call Mr. Reiling or Mr. Fichter for more info at 216.221.3776.

The schedule is as follows:

March 12:  Why do bad things happen to good people?  (3:15 to 7:30pm)

March 19:   Is discrimination inevitable? (2:30 to 7:00pm)

March 26:   Is God necessary to give life meaning? (2:30 to 7:00pm)

April 2:    Is love real or imaginary? (2:30 to 7:00pm)
